PLAYING: WHAT TO EXPECT
Kennebunk Hoops offers boys & girls in grades 3 through 6 a chance to learn and play competitive basketball. The first chance to play begins in October when 5th and 6th-grade boys & girls have a chance to try out for a team that will play in the Southern Maine Hoops League (SMHL). Each year KBH also evaluates the registered players from Grades 3 and 4 and also explore the same for players in this age group. This can be offered but is evaluated on a year by year basis as we want to make sure players from this age group are ready to compete at this level. The next opportunity to play comes in December when we hold tryouts for boys & girls in grades 3 through 6 to play in February and March in a series of tournaments.
SOUTHERN MAINE HOOPS LEAGUE
The first part of our season begins with boys and girls teams competing in the Southern Maine Hoops League (SMHL). This year (2024-25) we will be providing an opportunity for girls and boys from grades 3 through 6 to play 10-12 weekend games in the Saco based league from November to late February or early March. All games will be played in Southern Maine locations with a focus in the Saco area. We will have tryouts around the late October or early November time period and will pick teams of ten players each for this competitive league. In 2023-24 we entered 3 teams: a 6th grade boys team, a 5/6th grade girls team and a 5th grade boys team. We will practice twice a week and play games on the non holiday weekends. WINTER TOURNAMENT TEAMS
The next part of our season transitions into the Winter tournament teams. After RSU 21 Kennebunk, Arundel, Kennebunkport (KAK) Rec Hoop season, we will hold tryouts to form our "Tournament Teams", which will play in 3 tournaments in February and March. Every team holds 1 practice a week lasting approximately an hour and a half. There is an open 'Skills & Drills' practice once a week typically on Wednesdays. Games and tournaments are held on the weekends. Practice and game locations will be communicated by your child's coach at the start of each season.
